Description:

"Music of the Spheres" features a 3/4 life-size figure in a dark, curtained interior. Behind her is a window looking out into a night sky. There are stars in the sky, including the constellation Lyra, or Lyre--an ancient musical instrument. Overhead are Chinese lanterns, which, combined with the large globe, contribute to the loosely circular composition.

The ancient Greeks, particularly the mathematician Pythagoras, believed the music of the spheres was an inaudible harmonious music created by the movement of the celestial bodies. The concept can also be traced back to Jewish beliefs about an orderly cosmos singing the praises of its Creator. As an artist and musician, I find this idea particularly fascinating. Though it is strictly metaphysical, the idea of harmony in the universe is still prevalent in Western thought.
